Freelance invoice template: what to include
A freelance invoice is a one-page record: who you are, who pays, what the work was, and how much is due. Clients pay faster when that is obvious. You do not need accounting software for a $400 cleanup job.
Put these on every invoice
- Your name or studio, email, and city
- Client name and project title
- Invoice number and issue date
- Payment terms (Net 14 is a common freelance default)
- Line items: description, hours or quantity, rate, amount
- Tax if you charge it, then the amount due
- How to pay, and a note to include the invoice number
Invoice numbers
Start at a number you can live with (1001 is fine) and count up one per invoice. Do not reuse a number. If you refresh a draft, keep the same number until you send it. The invoice demo stores your company details in the browser and increments the number on each new invoice.
Save a PDF
Open the invoice in Chrome or Safari. Click Print / Save PDF. Choose Save as PDF. The on-screen buttons and helper text stay off the file. Email that PDF, or attach it in Fiverr/Upwork as the billing record.
The $12 Rate & Invoice Kit is that template plus a fee-aware rate calculator. Try the invoice first if you only need the PDF tonight.
